From Joshua to the Judges:
the 17-year bridge and six counted years
Scripture tells us that the elders outlived Joshua, that another generation arose, that Israel turned away, and that Cushan-rishathaim oppressed Israel eight years. It does not place every transition in a numbered Creation year. This page shows how the Living Bible Timeline bridges those statements without presenting the reconstruction as a directly dated verse.
Chronology notice: Joshua’s death row and the later explicitly numbered periods remain fixed. The 17-year bridge and six-year interval explain the unnumbered space between them; they do not add years to Scripture.
The KJV sequence
Joshua dies, and the elders who outlived him remain.
Judges 2:7 · KJV
“And the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works of the LORD, that he did for Israel.”
Judges 2:10 · KJV
“And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel.”
The text gives an order, not a numbered duration: Joshua dies; the elders and their generation pass; another generation arises; Israel turns from the LORD. Therefore the timeline must not attach a verse to a manufactured number as though Scripture stated the elapsed years.

The six counted rows
The remaining interval is counted backward from the 480th year.
1 Kings 6:1 · KJV
“And it came to pass in the four hundred and eightieth year after the children of Israel were come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon’s reign over Israel, in the month Zif, which is the second month, that he began to build the house of the LORD.”
The timeline places the 480th-year marker at CY 2925. From that fixed point, the stated reigns, judgeships, periods of rest, and years of oppression are counted backward. After those explicit totals are preserved, six counted Creation-year rows remain between the turning-away placement and Cushan-rishathaim’s eight-year oppression.

“Therefore the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Chushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia: and the children of Israel served Chushan-rishathaim eight years.”
Judges 3:9–11 · KJV
“And when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD, the LORD raised up a deliverer to the children of Israel, who delivered them, even Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother… And the land had rest forty years.”
The boundaryThe 17 and six are reconstructed intervals and are labeled accordingly. Cushan-rishathaim’s eight years and the following forty years of rest are explicit KJV totals.
