Events involving Zedekiah · Judah
Zedekiah begins to reign
Nebuchadnezzar installs Zedekiah after Jehoiachin is taken to Babylon in Adar 597 BC, within Creation year 3326.
“And made Zedekiah his brother king over Judah and Jerusalem. Zedekiah was one and twenty years old when he began to reign, and reigned eleven years in Jerusalem.”
Kings records Mattaniah’s new name, Zedekiah, and the beginning of his eleven-year reign.
Jerusalem is besieged
Scripture dates the final siege to Zedekiah’s ninth year and tenth month.
“In the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, came Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon and all his army against Jerusalem, and they besieged it.”
This placement follows the synchronized reign statements in 1–2 Kings and 1–2 Chronicles. Parallel accession, regnal, and kingdom notices are compared without forcing one kingdom’s count into the other.
