Events involving Zechariah · Israel
Zechariah begins to reign
Zechariah’s six-month reign completes the fourth generation promised to Jehu.
“In the thirty and eighth year of Azariah king of Judah did Zachariah the son of Jeroboam reign over Israel in Samaria six months.”
This placement follows the synchronized reign statements in 1–2 Kings and 1–2 Chronicles. Parallel accession, regnal, and kingdom notices are compared without forcing one kingdom’s count into the other.
Zechariah begins his dated prophecy
Zechariah’s ministry is dated two months after Haggai’s first message. The eighth month falls after Tishri, so the Creation year has turned to 3403 while the Nisan year remains 956.
“In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the LORD unto Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the prophet, saying, The LORD hath been sore displeased with your fathers. Therefore say thou unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Turn ye unto me, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will turn unto you, saith the LORD of hosts.”
This placement follows the synchronized reign statements in 1–2 Kings and 1–2 Chronicles. Parallel accession, regnal, and kingdom notices are compared without forcing one kingdom’s count into the other.
